"The creation of art is not a choice for me. I have to create. I don't direct my art, it directs me. The creative force has both led me, and pushed me. It has woven its way through all aspects of my life and formed who I am. In 1976 I traveled from my home in Minneapolis to Santa Fe, New Mexico. I intended to spend a weekend, and remained there for 20 years. It must have been the light. During that time, my graphic design company, Glyphics flourished. I worked with museums, music festivals and clients from all over the United States. I developed brand identity, book design, packaging and large promotional campaigns. Helping people find their creative voice had an unexpected benefit for me; it helped me find my own. Graphic illustration and design provided me with the key to unlock my true passion for painting. It was as if a vast reservoir of art and creativity poured into me. Color and nature filled me to bursting and manifested as paint on canvas. My paintings combine abstraction with the familiar, bright colors with muted Old World hues. They are my connection to an ethereal dream space where the elements of subtle landscapes are interwoven with found objects to form the essential nature of the subject. I am a constant seeker of something deeper. My question in each painting is what is underneath and from this place comes many layers that emerge subtly and form a co-mingling of what is seen and unseen. Each piece with its unique exploration of color and form has a certain zen like quality that, in its abstraction, creates a feeling of peace. I invite you to take a look and let me know what you think.
